Want to know more about a charity before donating your valuable time or money?
The BBB Charity Advisory Service is here to help!
The Better Business Bureau Foundation established the Charity Advisory Service
(CAS) to promote public confidence in local charities and encourage charitable
giving. CAS provides the public with information on specific charities and wise
giving practices. CAS also advises local charities on how to meet and maintain
high ethical standards of operation in accordance with the BBB’s Standards for
Charitable Accountability.

Each year CAS reviews charity financial statements,
IRS filings, annual reports, solicitations, direct mail pieces and special
event information. Based on this information provided by the charity, CAS
evaluates the charity in relation to the BBB’s Standards for Charitable
Accountability. CAS then develops a report with the evaluation conclusions and
summary of the charity’s mission, programs and key financial information.
CAS reports primarily on nonprofits that solicit donations from the general
public, corporations and foundations. CAS does not apply its Standards for
Charitable Accountability to those organizations that do not receive a
substantial portion of their revenue from public support. While we do offer
information on these organizations, we do not give them a CAS ranking.
In addition to producing charity reports, CAS publishes the Arizona Wise Giving
Guide. The Wise Giving Guide is designed to serve as a user-friendly reference
tool for foundations, corporations and individual donors. It provides the
complete name of each charity registered and indicates whether or not the
charity meets the BBB’s Standards for Charitable Accountability.
You have a choice when you give, and informed choices can make the greatest
difference in our community. The BBB hopes you will demand accountability from
the charities soliciting your support and look to CAS to provide you with
valuable information before you give.

The Better Business Bureau Foundation’s Charity Advisory Service (CAS) would

The CAS works to encourage public support of local charities by:

and educating donors on wise giving practices.
Nonprofit organizations may register with the BBB Charity Advisory Service for
free by downloading and completing the following questionnaire:
